The Department of Communication and Art
The Department of Communication and Art is based in a building designed by architect Jorge Kol de Carvalho, which was finished in 1996. The 5347 square metre building comprises offices, classrooms, 5 informatic laboratories with multimedia software, 3 electroacoustic music laboratories with equipment and software available for electronic music composition, 10 soundproof music teaching rooms, 20 soundproof music practice rooms, one percussion room, an audiovisual studio equipped with post-production facilities, one sound studio, a 50 seat amphitheatre and a 100 seat auditorium with pipe organ installed.

Instituto de Artes Visuais, Design Marketing
IADE - Instituto de Artes Visuais, Design e Marketing (Visual Arts, Design and Marketing Institute) - was founded in 1969 by Antnio Quadros, a portuguese philosopher and writer.
In 1993 IADE created two high education schools: the Design School and the Marketing and Advertising School, establishing three branches of Design Courses at university level: Industrial, Visual and Interior Design and two branches in Marketing and Advertising.
